Who would’ve guessed that our surprise once-every-ten-years snowstorm would stir up such a flurry of surprise posts? But these cutest little edible Christmas gifts are another one!
Adam tromped out in the snow to save all our massive bushes of basil, turning my kitchen into a veritable pesto factory the day after the snow.
And now we have a row of jars of pesto, perfect for Christmas gifting to our teachers and neighbors. I grabbed packages of snowflake pasta at Trader Joe’s to pair with the pesto and make “pesto pasta dinner kits.”
I used this pesto recipe, omitting the spinach (because loads of basil). After making about 50 oz of pesto, we portioned out into smaller jars and added labels.
The free printable pesto labels and the “pesto pasta dinner kit” labels are here.
Since I love gifting edible gifts (especially ones like pesto), and I love cute little kits/baskets, I guess there are worse surprises than an unexpected middle-of-the-night basil harvest. 😉
ps- When I told Burke that I made pesto for his teachers, he said, “Hmmm, I’m not sure mom. Usually kids don’t roll into school with pesto as a Christmas gift.” (Ummm, what!?! “Roll into school”!?! And who doesn’t like pesto???). But then I showed him the jars and the snowflake pasta and he changed his tune- he even asked if I could make one extra kit for his GT teacher. WEASEL. Cute, grownup, funny weasel.
