I’ve shouted from the mountaintops about my love for advent calendars for YEARS. And then I moved to New Zealand and *needed* a new one! So we tried something new last year- a Kindness Advent (an act of kindness for each day of December).
This advent calendar looked great, and was so much fun to put together, and gave the whole month of December an extra spin of ‘kindness’ and gratitude (LOVE!).
Even better- I thought I’d share how to, and the printables for the kindness advent.
The twenty-five kindness activites we chose were:
- Teacher treats and gifts
- Neighbor treats
- Send gifts to former foster kids’ families
- Ornament delivery
- Share candy canes
- Send gifts to someone who has had a hard year
- Happy post-it notes on bathroom mirrors
- Candy canes on cars
- Help a foster family
- Day of genuine compliments
- Surprise a friend
- Return trolleys at the supermarket
- Treats for the school staff
- Treats for the firestation
- Treat delivery
- Paint rocks and hide them
- Hold the door for shoppers
- Leave change at the laundromat
- Load bubble gum machines with change
- Help the neighbors with their rubbish bins
- Pay for someone’s coffee
- Make bookmarks for the library
- Surprise chalk art
- Goodies for the postman (they call them ‘posties’ here)
- Neighbor treats
*If you need other kindness advent ideas, there are so many on this blog. I left one page of the printables blank for you to add your own ideas!
To make the advent calendar- collect twenty five favor bags and fill each one with Christmas treats and one act of kindness. Add floral numbers (I traced them onto Rifle Paper Co. wrapping paper, cut them out, and glued them to each paper bag). Then add a pom pom tie on each paper bag. Kindness Advent = DONE!
