how to make rifle paper inspired felt flowers

I love Rifle Paper Co., y’all. I love the Rifle Paper Co. FABRIC and their city prints and their gift wrap (and did I mention their fabric?). SWOON.
I also love felt flowers (ok DIY flowers of all kinds, but I have a special place in my heart for flowers made out of fabric).
I’m currently working on a super-special gift for Piper that includes felt flowers, and I noticed that one of the ‘signature looks’ of the Rifle Paper Co. flowers are these sweet, two-toned buds.
Since rolled flowers are SO SO easy (and use so little felt), I figured I’d try to make something similar to add to Piper’s gift. AND I LOVE THEM.
To make a Rifle Paper inspired felt flower-
1- Gather a pile of coordinating wool felt (I keep coming back to this palette of pinks and peaches, but I also love the brighter pops of color in this palette and have already ordered this wool felt palette as well)
2- Cut a thin rectangle of felt (about 1/2″ tall and 4″ wide). Fringe one edge. Roll into a fringe-edged tube, hot gluing as you roll to secure.
3- Stack two pieces of coordinating felt or wool felt (I like the wool-felt blend better because it seems to cut better and just look better, but either one will work)
4- Cut out small stacked squares (about 3″ x 3″). Round the corners so you have two stacked oval/circles. Cut into a stacked spiral. (*To see pictures of 4, 5 and 6 see the photos below).
5- Separate the pieces of felt and trim off the edge of the interior spiral.
6- Hot glue the two spirals together.
6- Glue the inner edge of the spiral to the fringed tube. Continue to roll and glue until the two toned bud is finished.
(To make smaller two toned buds, skip the fringed center and just start at Step 2. To start, just pucker the center and hot glue and then continue rolling and gluing).
DONE! Add to a felt flower garland or use as a sweet hair accessory, or add to a Spring-y wreath.
I have a couple other FUN felt flower ideas up my sleeve, but they are still in the works so stay tuned. 😉
